ABBREVIATIONS

st(s) – Stitch(es)

k – Knit

rep – Repeat

rem – Remaining

k2tog – Knit 2 sts together

p2tog – Purl 2 sts together

cn – Cable Needle

dpn – Double Pointed Needles


Special Stitch: SM4 [5] (Smock 4 [5]) – Slip 4 [5] sts as if to purl onto a cable needle. Wrap working yarn around the 4 [5] sts in a counterclockwise direction. Knit from the cable needle as follows: k1, p2 [3], k1.




GAUGE

Stockinette with US9/5.5mm

4” = 14 Stitches | 24 Rows/Rounds


YARN

Medium Weight Lion Brand Jeans

Baby (Toddler, Child, Adult)

100 (175, 225, 250) Yards


NEEDLES

US 7/4.5 & 9/5.5mm 16” Circular


OTHER MATERIALS


Instructions

Baby (Toddler, Child, Adult)

BRIM | US 7/4.5mm Needles


Co 56 (64, 72, 80), place a marker and Join round careful not to twist sts.

1x1 rib: *k1, p1. Rep from * around for a total of 8 (10, 12, 14) rounds or until desired brim height.


BODY | US 9/5.5mm Needles

Rounds 1-5: *k1, p3. Rep from * around.





Round 6: *work sm5 (as follows: sl5 onto cn, wrap the 5sts counterclockwise twice, k from the cn as follows: [k1, p3, k1]), p3. Rep from * around.


Rounds 7-11: *k1, p3. Rep from * around.


Round 12: k1, *p3, sm5 (see special sts on page 1). Rep from * around until last 4 sts. Work the last sm5 as follows:

sl3, remove marker, sl1 onto cn. Wrap working yarn around the 5 sts in a counterclockwise direction. Knit from the cable needle as follows: k1, p3, place marker. Return the last st back onto the left-hand needle without knitting it.


Rep Rounds 1-12 until your beanie measures approx. 6 (7, 8, 9)” ending on round 12.


Decrease Rounds

Switch to dpns when stitches are too tight on circular needles or try the Modified Magic Loop!



Round 1: *k1, p2tog, p1. Rep from * around.


Rounds 2-3: *k1, p2. Rep from * around.


Round 4: *sm4 (see special sts), p2. Rep from * around.


Round 5: *k1, p2tog. Rep from * around.


Rounds 6-7: *k1, p1. Rep from * around.


FINISHING Cut yarn leaving long tail. Using a tapestry needle, weave through remaining stitches as if to knit and pull tight. Secure and weave in all ends.
