Knit Adult's Cera Slouch Beanie Tutorial

Today's pattern & tutorial is on the Knit Cera Slouch Beanie. This free pattern is for an adult size. If you'd like to purchase the convenient tri-fold pdf pattern (in 4 sizes), please visit my any of my shops.

I designed this beanie on our recent camp trip. Most of the time, I have no idea how things are going to work out. You imagine a design but sometimes, they finish differently than what you envisioned in your head!

This one was completely different than what I imagined. When you're knitting lace stitches with super bulky yarn, the holes are much larger than if you were to knit with lighter weight yarn. I really didn't like it at first but it grew on me...

My son wearing the Cera Slouch while we were out on a walk near the beach.

This complimentary pattern is for the Adult size only. Video Tutorial at bottom of post.

  • Super Bulky Yarn. I'm using Lion Brand's Wool Ease, Thick & Quick in Winter Sky. I used just under 1 skein (87 yards per skein). If you purchase a colorway that has 106 yards, you will be able to make a pom pom too!

  • US 13, 9mm 16" Circular needles.

  • Scissor | Purchase the Vintage Style Floral Scissor here!

  • Tape Measure

  • Tapestry Needle

  • 9mm Double Pointed Needle (optional) or use modified magic loop method (tutorial here)

  • Stitch Marker | Make your own stitch marker here!

Co 42. Add stitch marker and join, careful not to twist sts.

k1, p1 around.

Rep for a total of 9 rounds or until desired height of brim is reached.

Main beanie:

Round 1: *k2, p1. Rep from * around.

Round 2: *k2, p1, yo, ssk, p1. Rep from * around.

Round 3: *k2, p1. Rep from * around.

Round 4: *k2, p1, k2tog, yo, p1. Rep from * around.

Repeat Rounds 1-4 until beanie measures approx. 10 inches or as short/tall as you’d like (easily adjust slouch). End after round 2 or 4.

If your sts get too tight around the circular needle, you can switch to Double Pointed Needles or use the magic loop method.

Decrease Rounds:

Round 1: *k2, p1, k2tog, p1. Rep from * around.

Round 2: *k2tog, p1, k1, p1. Rep from * around.

Round 3: *k1, k3tog. Rep from * around.

Cut yarn leaving a tail and weave through remaining sts with tapestry needle (as if to knit). Pull tight and secure. Weave in all ends. Add pom pom if you'd like!

Here are the original ones I made during our camp trip.
