How to Tunisian Crochet - Cast on

In my last post (Tunisian Crochet - Beginners), I shared some things about Tunisian Crochet. Although I'm not new to Tunisian Crochet, I'm no expert so this is all a new learning experience for me too!

The first thing you want to do it cast on. You start by chaining any number of stitches. Some stitch patterns have a specific set of stitches you'll need to cast on. So, pay attention to that when you're exploring stitches.

Foundation: Now you will start working in the second chain from the hook. Insert your hook in the second chain and pull up a loop. You will then leave this loop on the hook and repeat for the next stitch and all stitches across.

Now that you've worked across, you'll need to work back the other direction. This is called the Return Pass.

Return Pass (RetP): To work the return pass, you start by chaining 1 first, then repeat *yarn over and pull through 2 loops*

Now it's time to start crocheting whatever stitch you need. Check out the Tunisian Simple Stitch here!

Here are some Tunisian Hooks available. I own all of these. The Bamboo ones will warp if not stored flat. Mine were in a cup (standing up) and warped over time! My favorites are the Interchangeable sets. I like that the Denise interchangeable set come in larger sizes. Knitter's Pride has larger hooks but they are sold separately.

There are hooks that have a "Hook" on both ends for knitting with 2 colors at the same time. I haven't gotten into that just yet!

Here is a quick video for casting on. I will be working on different Tunisian stitches after the TSS & other basic stitches.
