Crochet Granny Square (multi-colors) Pattern + Video

Hi everyone! Today's video tutorial is the traditional Crochet Granny Square Stitch. I am using 5 colors so I will go over how to change colors every round. I searched for color combos that had a retro vibe and used Lion Brand's Pound of Love (with so many colors and so much yardage).

I have a video for the traditional granny square using just one ball of yarn. You can watch it below or on youtube, here.

I have a couple of "granny" related garment patterns including the Granny Cabin Cardigan and Granni Pocket Cardi, but I really wanted a cardigan using squares stitched together.

Such a lovely pattern — the mix of colors really gives the granny square a cheerful and handmade charm. I appreciate how clearly the steps are explained, especially for beginners trying to follow along with the video. Creative hobbies like crochet feel so calming and mindful, similar to the peaceful feeling people get from keeping meaningful pieces at home, like a brass shiv parivar, that add warmth and personality to a space. Beautiful and inspiring work!

I love how this guide breaks down the granny square into manageable steps it makes the process approachable without overwhelming beginners. It’s a great reminder that mastering any craft takes patience, practice, and attention to small details, whether you’re crocheting or managing more technical workflows. In fact, the idea of starting with reliable, quality basics reminds me of choosing tech responsibly; even something like deciding to buy refurbished iPhone can rely on careful standards, much like the meticulous approach teams at Selling Electronics Responsibly (SER) take to ensure quality and reliability. Do you find that beginners stay motivated more when they see a small, complete piece finished early in the process?

This granny square pattern is beautifully explained—especially the color changes. I’m fairly new to crochet, and having both the written steps and the video makes it so much easier to follow along without getting stuck. I also love how multi-color squares feel personal; they end up reflecting little moments from daily life. Funny enough, I usually crochet in a quiet corner at home near my small prayer space, and having a hanuman idol for home nearby somehow keeps me calm and focused while working on detailed stitches like these.
