Crochet Fisherman's Ring Granny Square Video Tutorial


A little but better late than never? I posted a photo of this Granny Square on Granny Square day. I made it that evening so I didn't get to prepare the video, etc. This square is so beautiful and the texture is amazing! It's definitely a challenging square reading the pattern so hopefully this video will guide you through!


This square is from the Crochet Granny Squares Book. This square stood out to me of all the squares.

Abbreviations

beg - Beginning

ch - Chain(s)

sp - Space

dc - Double Crochet

reg - Repeat

rnd - Round

sc - Single Crochet

sl st - Slip Stitch(es)

sk - Skip

st - Stitch(es)

tr - Treble Crochet


Notes: The 5sc sts on the ch5 st is referred to as "cable"


Pattern

Round 1: Start with a magic ring, ch3 (counts as dc st). 15 dc sts into ring. sl st to 3rd ch from beg ch3. Pull tail to tighten. (16dc sts)


Round 2: ch1, 1sc in same st, ch5, sk2, 1sc in next st, turn, 5sc in the ch5 sp, turn, 1sc in 2nd skipped st (behind the ch5 cable), *ch5, sk1 st, 1sc in next, turn, 5sc in the ch5 sp, turn, 1sc in skipped st. Rep from * around joining to round with 1 sl st in the first skipped st. (8 cables)


Round 3: ch1, 1sc in same st, *ch5**, 1sc in next sc st (behind cable). rep from * around ending at **. Join the round with a sl st to first sc st.


Round 4: sl st in the next ch5 sp, ch3 (or try the chainless double crochet stitch), 4dc sts in the same ch5 sp, 5dc in every ch5 sp around. Join with a sl st to 3rd chain from beg ch3.


Round 5: ch1, 1sc in same st, ch5, sk2, 1sc in next st, turn, 5sc in the ch5 sp, turn, 1sc in 2nd skipped st (behind the ch5 cable), *ch5, sk1 st, 1sc in next, turn, 5sc in the ch5 sp, turn, 1sc in skipped st. Rep from * around joining to round with 1 sl st in the first skipped st. (20 cables)



Round 6: ch1, 1sc in same st, *ch5, 1sc in next sc st (behind cable). rep from * around ending with ch2, join the round with a dc st in first sc st.


Note: the ch2 and dc st is considered the ch5 st


Round 7: ch4 (counts as 1tr), *3 tr in same sp (around post of the dc you just joined with), *3dc in next ch5 sp, 3sc sts in each of the next 2 ch5 sp, 3dc in next ch5 sp**, 7tr in next ch5 sp. Rep from * around ending after **. End with 3 tr sts in the same sp as your beg tr sts. Join with sl st to the 4th chain from beg ch4.


Round 8: ch1, 2sc in same st, [1sc in next 18 sts, 3sc in next st] 3 times. 1sc in each of next 18 sts, 1sc in same st as first 2sc sts. Join with a sl st to the first sc st.
