Easy Crochet Chunky Cowl or Infinity Scarf Pattern & Tutorial

I just finished a knitted Chunky Bamboo Cowl (see photo below) & so now i'm working on some simple & quick crochet chunky cowls & infinity scarfs. All you need is to chain more stitches to get a larger circumference for an infinity scarf if you don't care for cowls. Made with just double crochet stitches, it's pretty easy!

The pattern will be for the adult cowl & adult infinity scarf. It is extremely easy to adjust. You can also use any weight yarn with the appropriate hook size. I usually just go by the recommend size on the label of the yarn.

The cowl measures approximately 26 inches in circumference and 13 inches tall (height). The height is easily adjustable as well.

The infinity scarf measures approximately 48 inches in circumference and 7.5 inches (width of scarf).

SUPPLIES:

Super Bulky Yarn. I'm using Loops & Threads, Kaleidoscope. I used 2 skeins (77 yards per skein). US N/15 10.00mm Crochet Hook

Tape Measure

Tapestry Needle

Scissor

ABBREVIATIONS

ch - Chain

st(s) - Stitch(es)

sl st - Slip Stitch

dc - double crochet

Instructions: Cowl (Infinity Scarf) | See Video Tutorial at bottom of page.

Ch 46 (90) sts or as many sts as you'd like to get the circumference you want.

Note: Keep in mind that the circumference of the foundation chain may shrink after you join and work your first round (this all depends on your tension).

Join to the first ch st with a sl st. Be careful not to twist your ch sts.

Try the Foundation Double Crochet (FDC). See tutorial below or directly here!

Round 1: ch2 (does not count as a st). 1dc into the same st & into every st around. Sl st to the first dc st (not the ch2)

Repeat Round 1 until cowl (infinity scarf) measures approx. 13 (7.5) inches or as tall as you’d like (easily adjustable). Just remember where you stop is the height of the cowl and the width of the infinity scarf.

Fasten off & weave in all ends.

That's it! Easy right?

My goal was to use up my 2 skeins. This is the method of joining I used when adding the other skein: The magic knot method. Of course, you can add new yarn however you like!

Note: The knot is more noticeable with heavier weight yarn.

This is what it looks like when not wrapped around twice

I made one using 2 skeins of Lion Brand's Wool Ease, Thick & Quick in the color Hoyas. This yarn is slightly thicker and had more yard per skein (87) so I ended up with a longer piece.
