Crochet Tunisian Cross Stitch Tutorial

Updated: Apr 19, 2019

I'm slowly adding videos for stitches I use in my projects so that there's reference available. I'm working on a quick Tunisian Scarf because it's the first day of Fall and we all need cozy knit/crochet scarfs, hats, sweaters, etc!

I don't know the actual name of this stitch but since we're crossing stitches, we'll call it just that!

In the video, I used Knitter's Pride's new Ginger Tunisian Interchangeable Crochet hooks (see my review here). I also showed a few other (more affordable) optional hooks you may use, even a regular crochet hook. I do own all the hooks below and not just recommending random products. My least favorites are the longer bamboo & aluminum hooks but they are the most affordable.

STITCH PATTERN

If you don't know the basics, check out my Tunisian Cast On and Tunisian Simple Stitch posts!

Chain in multiples of 2 stitches (any even number)

For this tutorial, I chained 8 stitches. Work into the 2nd stitch from the hook, insert your hook, yarn over & pull up a loop. Keep all loops on your hook and continue across.

Now work a return pass.

Return Pass (RetP): Chain 1, then repeat *yarn over and pull through 2 loops*

After working the foundation row, you can start working the cross stitch row.

Forward Pass (FwP): To work this stitch, skip the first vertical bar, inserting your hook into 2nd vertical bar and pulling up a loop. Go bak and repeat for skipped stitch. Repeat across.

Cast off: To cast off, you will insert your hook into the 2nd vertical bar (as you've been doing) and pull up a loop. Now, you want to pull through the loop on your hook as well. You no longer want to keep all the loops on your hook. Go back and rep for skipped stitch, Continue working casting off across.
