Crochet Falling Leaves Stitch Pattern & Tutorial

Hi there! Thanks for stopping by! Today's stitch pattern is the Falling Leaves Stitch. This stitch has such a beautiful texture and design. This stitch is in The Complete Photo Guide to Crochet Book.

I used Lion Brand's Color Made Easy (Bulky) for one of the swatches. I used Lion Brand's Scarfie for the Video Stitch Tutorial. You can definitely use any worsted weight yarn. The variegated blue yarn is Walmart's Basic Yarn. Not the best but it was under $2. I have a hard time saying no to yarn!

Please visit any of my shops if you would like to purchase ad-free PDF knitting & crochet patterns in a convenient tri-fold format for on-the-go Knitting/Crocheting.

Yarn - Yarn I used: Lion Brand's Color Made Easy in the color Pomegranate (for photos) & Lion Brand's Scarfie in video

US J/6mm Crochet Hook - I used Tulip Brand Crochet Hook

Special Stitch Leaf Stitch - [yo, insert hook in indicated st] twice (Photo 2-3). yo & pull through 4 loops (photo 4), yo & pull through last 2 loops on hook (photo 5).

The ch1 does not count as a stitch. The ch3 counts as a dc st.

Foundation: ch in multiples of 4 + 2. 1sc in 2nd ch st from hook and in every ch st across

Row 1: ch1, turn, 1sc in every st across.

Row 2: ch3 (counts as a dc st), 1dc in each of the next 3 sts, *1 leaf st (see special stitch above) around the sc post st from 2 rounds below, sk next st in current row, 1dc in each of the next 3 sts. Rep from * until last st. 1dc in last st.

Note: Try the Chainless Double Crochet Stitch at the start of row 4 & 6

Row 3: ch1, turn, 1sc in every st across.

Row 4: ch3, 1dc in the next st, *1 leaf st around the dc post st from 2 rounds below (around post of dc st), sk next st in current row, 1dc in each of the next 3 sts. Rep from * until last 4 sts. End with 1 leaf st, sk next st, 1dc in each of the last 2 sts.

Repeat rows 3-6 until desired size ending on a double crochet row, row 4 or 6.

Hello, Phanessa. There's a wee problem with the pattern instructions: the directions say to repeat rows 3-6, but there are only directions for four rows. Thank you. It's a very pretty stitch though, and I really appreciate you introducing it to us. 😺
