Crochet Boxed Puff Stitch Pattern + Video

Hi everyone! Today's video tutorial is the Crochet Boxed Puff Stitch. I used this stitch in the new Finley Slouch Beanie. The video for this stitch pattern is for working in rows. Let me know if you'd like to see a video for working in the round!

I love that this stitch has a two-row repeat and the number of stitches in the repeat is only 3.

Abbreviations

ch - Chain

st(s) - Stitches

sc - Single Crochet

sp - Space(es)

sk - Skip

Rep - Repeat

dc - Double Crochet

yo - Yarn Over

SPECIAL STITCHES – Puff Stitch

[yo, insert hook into indicated st, pull up a loop] 4 times, yo, pull through 9 loops, ch1 to secure.

Long Double Crochet Stitch

Insert hook in the 2nd skipped st from the previous round (st closest to the dc st), draw up a tall loop, [yo, pull through 2 loops] twice.

Instructions

Chain in multiples of 3 + 2

Row 1 (right side): puff st in 5th ch from hook, *sk2, [1dc, ch2, puff st] in the next st. Rep from * across.

Row 2 (wrong side): ch1, 1sc in the next ch2 sp, 1sc in the ch1 of puff st, 1 long dc st in the 2nd skipped st from the previous round (st closest to the dc st). Rep from * around. Join with a sl st to the 1st sc st.

Row 3: ch5 (counts as dc + ch2 throughout or try the chainless double crochet!), puff st in the same st, *sk2 sts, [1dc, ch2, puff st] in the next st. Rep from * across.

Repeat rows 2 & 3 until the desired size. That's it folks!
