Crochet a Straight Seam in the Round

Updated: Apr 19, 2019

I posted a tutorial on How to Crochet a Straight Seam in the Round (for a flat circle). I received a lot of questions on how I would go about crocheting a straight seam once you stop increasing. Although this is possible, I guess it never really bothered me too much.

If it does bother you, read on! It is a very simple fix!

The one thing that you'll need to change is where you start your first stitch. You will need to start on the 2nd stitch (skipping the first) every other round. This means that you end with your last stitch in the FIRST stitch which is the one skipped at the beginning of the round.

If you want your work reversible, you can turn your work after every round. This also helps keep your seam straighter. This tutorial is for working in the round without turning.

Please visit any of my shops if you would like to purchase ad-free PDF patterns in a convenient tri-fold format for on-the-go crocheting/knitting.

Instructions

Foundation: ch any number of sts you'd like & join your round by working a sl st to the first ch st. Make sure your chain sts are not twisted.

Round 1: ch2 (does not count as a st thorughout), work 1dc into every ch st around. sl st to the first dc st (not ch2).

Round 2: ch2, sk first st, 1dc in the next and every st around. work 1 last dc st in the first sk st of the round.

Repeat Rounds 1 & 2.

Switching between each round will keep your seam straight.
