LEFT-HANDED Tutorial


GAUGE

Stockinette in US15/10mm

4” = 9 Stitches | 13 Rows/Rounds


YARN

Super Bulky #6 (40-110 yards)

US 13/9mm BRIM – 16” Circular Needles

US 15/10mm BODY – 16” Circular Needles

US 15/10mm Double Pointed Needles

ABBREVIATIONS

co – Cast on

st(s) – Stitch(es)

k – Knit

p – Purl

rep – Repeat

k2tog – Knit 2 sts together

tbl - Through Back Loop

dpn – Double Pointed Needles

kfb Knit front and back: knit the next stitch through front loop, do not slip off, knit the same stitch through the back loop.


Special Stitches (See image below Long Stitch – count 4 sts over & 4 rounds below. Insert needle in space between the 4th and 5th columns & pull up a long loop.

MEASUREMENTS

This is just a standard head sizing chart provided for your convenience. This is not the finished beanie size. Sizes may differ due to knitter’s tension and type of yarn used.

Instructions | In US Terms

Sizes: Baby (Toddler, Child, Adult, Lg Adult)


BRIM | Smaller Size Needles

co 36 (38, 40, 42, 44), join round careful not to twist sts. Add stitch marker to mark the beg.

Rounds 1- 5 (6, 7, 7, 8): k1tbl, p1. Rep from around.

 

BODY | Larger Needles                      

Set up Round

Baby – [k4, p2]. Rep between [ ]

(36 sts)

Toddler – [k8, kfb] 4 times, k2. (42 sts)

Child – [k19, kfb] twice (42 sts)

Adult – [k6, kfb] 6 times (48 sts)

Lg Adult[k10, kfb] 4 times. (48 sts)

 

Rounds 1-4: [k4, p2]. Rep between [ ]

Round 5: [Long st, k1, p2, k3]. Rep between  [ ]

Round 6: [k2tog tbl, p2, k3]. Rep between

[ ]

Rounds 7-10: [k1, p2, k3]. Rep between [ ]

 





Round 11: [k3, Long st, k1, p2]. Rep between [ ]

Round 12: [k3, k2tog tbl, p2]. Rep between [ ]

Repeat Rounds 1-12 until your beanie measures ear to crown height (see chart on page 1) end on rounds 4 or 10. Measure from the bottom of brim up. Examples: For a 9-year-old, stop at 8-9” for a 1-2” slouch beanie. Adjust slouch as desired.



Decrease Rounds

Switch to dpns when stitches are too tight on circular needles or try the Modified Magic Loop!


Ending on Round 4

Round 1: [long st, k1, p2tog, k3] Rep between [ ]

Round 2: [k2tog tbl, p1, k3] Rep between [ ]

Round 3: [k1, p1, k1, k2tog]. Rep between [ ]

Round 4: [k1, p1, k2tog]. Rep between [ ]

Round 5: k1 [p1, k2tog]. Rep between [ ] until last st. k last st.

 

If you still have too many sts, work 1 more round: [k1, k2tog].




Ending on Round 10

Round 1: [k3, long st, k1, p2tog]. Repeat between [ ]

Round 2: [k3, k2tog tbl, p1]. Rep between [ ]

Round 3: [k1, k2tog, k1, p1]. Rep between [ ]

Round 4: [k1, k2tog, p1]. Rep between [ ]

Round 5: [k2tog, p1]. Rep between [ ]

If you still have too many sts, work 1 more round: [k1, k2tog].



Pom Pom

Using an extra-large pom pom maker (or desired size), make pom pom by wrapping yarn around pom maker until full or as thick as you’d like and attach to beanie.
