Lion Brand Yarn Company is launching Hat Not Hate to rally consumers to knit or crochet blue hats, share them on social media with the hashtag #HatNotHate, and wear them proudly on World Bullying Prevention Day, October 1, 2018. In partnership with STOMP Out Bullying(TM), the leading national anti-bullying and cyber-bullying organization for kids and teens in the U.S. Lion Brand will be donating 2% of the proceeds of blue yarn sales to this cause.
As a mom, you worry about a lot of things when it comes to your kids. You teach them kindness, respect, compassion, etc. One of the things I worry about is bullying. It breaks my heart that 1 in 4 teens are bullied and that HALF of teen suicides are due to bullying....
Think about that for a moment... it could be your child, your sister, your brother, or your best friend... so I will be wearing my blue hat on October 1st! I hope that you will knit this one (or knit/crochet any other blue beanie) and wear your beanie too!

M1 – Make one (increase) – With right needle, pick up horizontal bar between 2 sts and place it on left needle. Knit st in the back loop.
Gauge: 10 Stitches x 12 Rounds = 4inches

Special Stitches
LT – Left Twist: Knit second st in back loop, do not slide sts off needle. Knit first st through back loop and slide all sts of needle.
PATTERN
BRIM | 9mm Needles
Co 42 sts
Add stitch marker and join, careful not to twist sts.
k1, p1 around for 7 rounds.
BEANIE | 10mm Needles
Round 1: *p1, k5. Rep from * around.
Round 2: *p1, LT, k3. Rep from * around.
Round 3: *p1, k5. Rep from * around.
Round 4: *p1, k1, LT, k2. Rep from * around.
Round 5: *p1, k5. Rep from * around.
Round 6: *p1, k2, LT, k1. Rep from * around.
Round 7: *p1, k5. Rep from * around.
Round 8: *p1, k3, LT. Rep from * around
Repeat Rounds 1 - 8 two more times. Your beanie should measure approx. 9” from bottom of brim.
Decrease Rounds - Switch to DPNs when sts are too tight or use the Magic Loop Method.
Round 1: *p1, ssk, k3. Rep from * around.
Round 2: *p1, ssk, k2. Rep from * around.
Round 3: *p1, ssk, k1. Rep from * around.
Round 4: *p1, ssk. Rep from * around.
Cut yarn leaving tail and weave through remaining sts as if to knit and cinch. Secure and weave in ends.
Finishing:
Fasten off and weave in ends on the inside of beanie.
Add a Pom Pom if you like!
