Crochet Raspberry Beanie & Cowl Pattern & Tutorial

Updated: Apr 19, 2019

I'm super excited to be a part of Red Heart's Chic Sheep Designer Blog Tour! If you follow my work, you know that I'm in love with slouch beanies so for this project, I designed a beanie and cowl set packed with texture! It's been so hot this summer that I'm ready for some cooler weather and beanies!

Please visit any of my shops if you would like to purchase the ad-free inexpensive PDF pattern in a convenient tri-fold format for on-the-go crocheting.

PATTERN (BEANIE)

BRIM

If you want to challenge yourself, try different types of ribbing here!

Row 1: ch12, work 1sc in 2nd st from hook & every st across (11 sts)

Row 2: ch2, 1sc tbl of every st across. (11 sts)

Rep Rows 2 until brim measures the desired circumference (see above chart) you need for the size you are making. End on the same side as the beginning tail.

Seaming The Brim

Video Tutorial - The video is for a brim crocheted with slip stitches however the process is the same.

Align the 2 short ends together. Sew the two short ends of the brim together by doing a slip stitch through the “chain” end of the brim and tbl of the other end of the brim. Flip brim inside out so the seam is on the inside.

MAIN BEANIE

Adjustment Round - ch1, work 1sc around the top of the brim in multiples of 8 sts. You should get approx 1sc for every row of brim.

Example: If you crocheted 40 rows of brim, you should get approx 40 sts (which divides by 8). Round up if you do not have multiples of 8 sts.

Round 1: ch3, sk1 st, *3 fpdc in the next post, sk1 st, 1dc in the next st, sk1 st. Rep from * around. Sl st to the 3rd ch from the beg ch3.

Round 2: ch1, 1sc in every st around. sl st to the first sc st. Sl st 2 sts over.

Note: You want to start your next round in the middle st of the 3 fpdc sts from 2 rounds below.

Round 3: ch3, *3 fpdc in the dc st from 2 rounds below, 1dc in the sc st in the middle sc st of the 3 fpdc cluster. Rep from * around. Sl st to the 3rd ch from the beg ch3.

Repeat Rounds 2 & 3 until beanie measures approx. 2” above the height measurement (see above chart) ending after round 2.

Crochet more/less rounds to adjust slouch.
