How to Knit - Cable 4 Front & Back (C4f & C4b)

Hi Friends! I love cable stitches. When I first started knitting, I was intimidated by cable stitches. I mean, how do they go in different directions? What is this cable needle? I knew that I wanted to learn!

Today's tutorial is on the Cable 4 Front (C4F) & Cable 4 Back (C4B).

This post contains affiliate links. Please see bottom of post for more information.

For this tutorial, I used this beautiful yarn from Manos Del Uruguay Franca. Some of my

go-to yarns are I used Lion Brand's Hometown USA 100% acrylic yarn, the Wool Ease Thick and Quick, a wool blend and Hobbii Yarns, UMAMI .

Let's jump in!

Cable 4 Front (C4F)

The c4f cable moves in the left direction.

Instructions

Step 1: Slip 2 stitches as if to purl onto a cable needle.

Step 2: Next, place the cable needle in the FRONT of your work.

Step 3: Now, knit the next 2 stitches on your left hand needle.

Step 4: Lastly, knit the 2 stitches directly from the cable needle. You can always place these 2 needles back onto the left hand needle first if that is more comfortable for you.

Cable 4 Back (C4B)

The c4b cable moves in the right direction.

Instructions

Step 1: Slip 2 stitches as if to purl onto a cable needle.

Step 2: Next, place the cable needle in the BACK of your work.

Step 3: Now, knit the next 2 stitches on your left hand needle.

Step 4: Lastly, knit the 2 stitches directly from the cable needle. You can always place these 2 needles back onto the left hand needle first if that is more comfortable for you.

In the video, I also show you how to do this without a cable needle.
